What do Melrose parent Council do?

Melrose Primary Parent Council is a statutory body that represents the views of parents within the school. It should first and foremost be about a partnership between the school management, teachers and parents. The Parent Council plays an active role in supporting and advancing children’s learning, development and welfare.

Meeting on the first Wednesday of each month between 6.30pm and about 8pm, the Melrose Parent Council discuss issues that range from Council level changes like Transforming Children's Services or Budget Cuts through to views raised by parents that concern school-centric issues like school uniform for example.

The Parent Council also has a role to play in lobbying the Scottish Borders Council to ensure the views of the majority of parents of Melrose Primary School are taken into consideration and taken seriously. Without the Parent Council issues like the budget cuts may have been pushed through more quickly and with more severity.
